“Quality of Life is our Concern”

The Mission Area Community Police Advisory Board was formed in 2005 to advise and inform the Los Angeles Police Department Area Commanding Officers of quality of life problems and concerns of the community.

The Community Police Advisory Board is a group of volunteers from the residential and business communities of the Area. Their role is to advise the Captain regarding crime and quality of life issues that affect the community. During a typical CPAB meeting, members are expected to contribute observations or information such as an increase in graffiti, an increase in traffic congestion on a street, or rumors in a neighborhood about possible gang retaliation. Members may share information during monthly meetings, during ad hoc subcommittee meetings, or at anytime the information is important to the prevention of criminal activity.

Each CPAB member is responsible for knowing the conditions within their communities and must be willing to spend time considering ways to improve these conditions. Also, each CPAB member should understand ways to improve communication and the relationship between the LAPD and their communities. It is vital that information gleaned from your friends, neighbors, or associates is communicated to your officers.

The Mission Area Community Police Advisory Board is co-chaired by Captain William Scott and Betty Ley. Members include: residents, students, local business owners, non-profit organizations, Los Angeles Police Department Officers, Neighborhood Watch participants, and Neighborhood Council representatives. Regular attendees also include: Elected Officials, City Attorney's Office - Neighborhood Prosecutor, and the Department of Parks & Recreation.
